BANGALORE, INDIA: A product that can fulfill a user's need of having multiple SIMs without actually buying a new handset is ready to be launched in India. The US based equipment manufacturer Motorola is in talks with Indian telecom service providers to bring in iSIM (intelligent SIM), a flexible wafer that is attached to subscriber's original SIM.

It provides additional services that can be controlled via SIM tool kit (STK) and other standards that work across mobile handsets, such as JAVA and SMS. Thus, it allows third party developers to build applications and services.

“Motorola's iSIM has been commercially deployed in EMEA and is already a hit in China. It will come to India most likely by the year end,” Subhendu Mohanty, country head, network business, Motorola India told VOICE&DATA.
