HYDERABAD: Intel has announced the launch of its Wireless Verification Program. "We aim to improve the performance/ interoperability of the combined computing and wireless experience," said solutions group director at Intel India, Shrikant Patil. The company claims that by June next year it will create 1,000 hotspots in the country including corporate offices, coffee shops, hotel lounges, campuses and universities. "To increase awareness, we will be branding the Wi-Fi zones as Centrino Mobile Technology Zones with specially designed logos," informed Patil.

However, before the ecosystem validation and verification for access, authorization and accounting is created, some knotty billing issues involving third party vendors and the real estate owners need to be settled. "The ground work is through and as soon as the agreements with participating partners come through, the program can roll off," said Patil.

He elaborated that, "all computing devices will communicate and all communication devices, will compute. To make it possible improving WLAN connectivity, battery life, performance and form is critical. And Intel is at it."

In the Internet age when work moves with people, mobile technology improves productivity. Citing that 70 percent of the work force at Intel uses notebooks, Patil said, "In the foreseeable future all PCs will become notebooks." He further added that notebooks in WLAN environment are significantly more productive over notebooks in wired world. According to Patil, with the mobile technology already being commoditized, the program will not take long to take off and the scaling up will be much faster.
