Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister of India in his second Railway budget, has made visible improvements in Rail Services. “100 Indian Railway stations to be Wi-Fi-enabled this year” he declared while presenting the Railway Budget 2016 at Lok sabha. Social Media is buzzing with the appreciation of the changes he made. With the aim of economic growth development, employment generation, and satisfying customers, Mr. Prabhu has given a new color to Indian railway.

“These are challenging times, toughest time; facing dual headwinds” –Mr.Prabhu said. The availability of free Wi-Fi connectivity has been specially made for youth and business travelers. There has been no hike in the ticket fare. He confirmed the implementation by the year end. There is also a proposed plan of making 400 Wi-Fi-enabled stations by next two years.

“100 Wi-Fi enabled railway stations” is said to be the huge step towards “Make in India” project. To execute the project, Indian Railway has entered into a partnership with Google. The news has been in talks since the visit of Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google at India in December 2015.

“In our attempt to provide internet access to people, we have decided to provide free Wi-Fi at 400 Railway Stations in association with RailTel. The first 100 stations will come online by 2016-end.” – Pichai announced. Pichai had promised this deal when PM Modi had visited the company’s California campus, September 2015. In January'16, Mumbai Central Railway Station became the very first station to get Google’s Wi-Fi connectivity.

Along with Free Wi-Fi connectivity and no fare and freight hikes, Mr. Suresh Prabhu has announced the proposed to commission 2,800 km of new tracks next year, double decker train “Uday Express” to be introduced, e-booking of 7000 tickets/minute, first Auto hub in Chennai to be introduced, increase in women and senior citizen quota etc.

Well, Railway Budget 2016 left everyone in anticipation of bringing better and better to Indian Railway.
