3G will take 2-3 years to catch up in Indian mkt

NEW DELHI, INDIA: 3G may have made inroads into the Indian mobile landscape, but that has not stopped the excitement of the entire industry talking about it. However, to adequately tap into and capitalize on the potential that this huge transformation in technology entails, efficient IT systems also need to be in place.

Addressing just this issue, F5 and Frost & Sullivan at an event recently spoke about how innovation and transformation of IT is the road ahead for next-generation mobile operators in India.

Speaking about the factors that have recently revolutionized the Indian telecom industry, Jayesh Easwaramony, director, ICT Practice, APAC, Frost & Sullivan said, “While previously there was the era of the large screen, today it is the small screen that rules. Apps stores have made a significant dent in the revenue of operators, and traffic growth for small screen users is reaching 100 mb per month in developed markets, putting pressure on operators, who need to manage cost per bit to compete as usage picks up.”
