3D CAD Student Edition

CAD/CAE software has announced the launch of the SoldWorks Student edition

2006-07 in India.






This software edition is configured and packaged for engineering and industrial
design students. The software includes 3D CAD software, SolidWorks Animator,

toolbox, PhotoWorks, eDrawings and a tutorial.






The company also unveiled SolidWorks 2007 software, which features over 200 new
features. One of the highlights of the latest version is the SolidWorks

Intelligent Feature Technology (SWIFT), which puts expert-level techniques for

3D CAD's most challenging design operations in the hands of every user.








John McEleney, CEO, SolidWorks said that the market was moving from 2D to 3D and
that companies would have to employ 3D to stay competitive. “ Engineering

outsourcing companies in India are rapidly adopting 3D because of this

reason,” he said.






He added that the company is increasing its investment into sales, support and
development in India because of the demand from the domestic market as well as

MNCs in India demanding broader support.






SolidWorks has R&D teams in Pune and Mumbai, which were set up in a joint
venture between Dassault Systems and Geometric Software Solutions.






The Pune center has over 45 employees and McEleney said that the company would
increase its investment in growing this team. Recently, the company started a

technical support center in India to provide global support for its customers.
