Miercom evaluated the overall environmental impact and business enabling green benefits the products provide to customers, and rated them as 'Miercom Green Certified.'

Miercom, as part of its Certified Green Test Program, evaluated the power consumption and efficiency of the switches. Miercom reports the H3C 5500-EI stackable switch with 24- and 48-port models are up to 40 percent more energy efficient in terms of watts of energy used per gigabits per second of performance.

The H3C S7506E modular, multilayer 10-Gigabit and gigabit switch is up to 24 percent more energy efficient than comparable products. 3Com's entire H3C enterprise networking portfolio is designed to deliver the industry's lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).

Miercom also reports that organizations can realize further cost savings by deploying the new H3C Intelligent Management Center (IMC) to manage their network. IMC is an end-to-end enterprise-class management solution that provides unique single-pane management of the entire heterogeneous enterprise network infrastructure and integrates with existing systems to deliver heightened efficiency and value. IMC's centralized remote administration capability can help reduce network administration costs.

The newest H3C products feature the latest 90nm silicon technology, which increases performance without increasing power usage. According to Miercom, “The silicon technology delivers a 35 per cent increase in processor speed, while reducing active power needs by 60 per cent.”

Miercom says that the annual operating cost of the H3C S7506E is 24 per cent lower than the industry average. The annual operating cost of the H3C S5500-EI is 17 per cent below the industry average, for both the 24- and 48-port models.

Miercom also evaluated the energy efficiency of the company's 3Com Switch 4800G and 3Com Switch 7906E for small and medium-sized enterprises. It says the Switch 4800G with 24- and 48-port models is up to 40 percent more energy efficient in terms of watts of energy used per gigabits per second of performance and its annual operating cost is 17 percent below the industry average.
