KOLKATA: The 36th annual convention and exhibition by Computers Society of
India (CSI) started at Science City, Kolkata, on November 22 and would be on
till the 24th, 2001. The theme is "India - Emerging IT Superpower".
In line with this, the conference has had in its repository - seminars,
interactive sessions, and paper presentations.
The program was addressed by Dr F C Kohli and inaugurated by Manabendra
Mukherjee, minister for IT, West Bengal. The other speakers were Prof. C R
Muhukrishnan, deputy director, IIT (Madras) and Ajoyendra Mukherjee, VP, TCS.
The exhibition showcased products and services of players like TCS, Cognizant
Technologies, Tata Infotech, R S Software and Usha Telecom among others.
In the convention the CSI National IT awards were given away. The Best IT
Usage was given for the smart card usage for the Gujarat driving licenses and MP
zilla parishad. The best package application was given to Infosys while the CSI
e-governance award went to Karnataka and Gujarat. The National Young IT
Professionals award was given to Pune based Priya Electronics with the runners
up going to ABM Knowledge Ware from Mumbai. In the CDAC category the award went
to Leela Hind, CDAC company.
