2G scam trial begins, cross examination on

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The special CBI judge, OP Saini, began the 2G spectrum allocation scam trial proceedings today.

The CBI special court has listed 140 witnesses, of which 28 will be testified in 14 working days. Among those to dispose before the trial court include RBI Governor Subha Rao and corporate lobbyist Nira Radia.

Reliance ADAG president AN Sethuraman, Reliance Capital’s AVP, Anand Subramaniam and Etisalat DB Telecom’s chief’s regulatory officer, Vinod Kumar Budhiraja will record their statements as witnesses before the CBI special court.

Last month, the CBI had rejected the bail applications of all the eight accused, including DMK leader Kanimozhi and Siddarth Behura, in the 2G spectrum case.

The special court had also observed that Kanimozhi belongs to upper echleon of society and is an MP. It said: "The enormity of the charge is such that a bail can't be granted. Saini in his order said that being a woman can't be a basis for discrimination."
