Dmitry Itskov, a Russian entrepreneur and the founder of New Media Stars, a web-based media company wants to live forever by transferring his personality into a robot. “2045 initiative” is what he has named his ambitious project that aims to achieve “cybernetic immortality” by the year 2045.

Media baron has got on board top neuroscientists, robotics analysts, engineers and consciousness researchers to realize his vision. "I am 100 percent sure it will happen, otherwise, I wouldn't have started it," Mr Itskov told the BBC, which is filming a documentary on the same."The ultimate goal of my plan is to transfer someone's personality into a completely new body," he added.

The idea of uploading human consciousness to robot intelligence has been repeatedly used in Hollywood sci-fis like 2014 blockbuster, Transcendence but something like this in the real world and that too on such a big scale is happening for the first time.

The whole project is premised on a belief that robots can store a person's thoughts and feelings because brains work like a computer. The experiment will begin by uploading a digital version of a human brain to an android – effectively rebooting a person’s mind – which would take the form of a robotic copy of a human body or a hologram with a full human personality. Part of Itskov project is to re-create his appearance as a hologram.

This has also reignited the debate in the scientific circles over whether the intricacies of the human brain can even be replicated in a machine at all. " not crazy, but difficult," explained Aubrey de Grey, a UK expert on ageing, when talking about creating a robot with a personality.

2045 Initiative, a nonprofit organization was founded in February 2011 with the participation of Russian specialists in the field of neural interfaces, robotics, artificial organs and systems.

The main goal of the Initiative, as stated on the site, is "to create technologies enabling the transfer of an individual’s personality to a more advanced non-biological carrier, and extending life, including to the point of immortality. We devote particular attention to enabling the fullest possible dialogue between the world’s major spiritual traditions, science and society."
