1000-acre IT park in Chennai housefull

CHENNAI: Siruseri IT Park, spread across 1,000 acres of land and about 30 kms from Chennai city, is now fully occupied, informed Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT) MD, Sudeep Jain. ELCOT is the nodal agency for implementing IT in Tamil Nadu. The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has developed the park.



The major players who have occupied space in Siruseri include Xansa, Hexaware Technologies, Polaris Software Lab Ltd, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Sify and Syntel. With Siruseri being completely sold out, ELCOT is on the move to expand to another 500 acres of land adjoining Siruseri to set up the second phase of the IT Park.



As part of its expansion, the government of Tamil Nadu plans to promote Coimbatore and Hosur besides Chennai as ITeS and BPO destinations. ELCOT has identified 27 acres of land in Coimbatore for companies to set up their facilities. Already, companies like HSBC and Wipro have shown their interest in Coimbatore.



Additionally, ELCOT has acquired 300 acres of land as part of the Knowledge Industry Township, which the government proposes to establish on the Old Mahabalipuram stretch. Under the KIT project, ELCOT proposes to acquire 5,000 acres of land, "And the remaining is in the process of being transferred which will happen shortly in a couple of months," informs Jain.
