Now, there are two new icons to indicate on Facebook (FB) your sexual preference and the kind of relationship you share with your partner. Presuming that you are gay, and have a partner, you can use the 'groom couple' icon and in case of lesbian partners, two brides positioned next to each other replace the boys.

These can be reflected on your Timeline.

So far, FB had just one icon option — a bride and a groom on top of a cake — for both heterosexual and homosexual couples. Once you had made public your marriage to someone on the network, the icon would be placed on top of the statement.

There is still speculation over whether FB introduced this new feature on Saturday or Sunday. Reportedly, the 'iconic' debut was marked by the wedding announcement of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and his partner Sean Eldridge.

It is but natural that the LGBT community has welcomed the decision by the social network to be more inclusive, but what is surprising is that it has garnered overwhelming response from others as well.

Almost 2,000 people, including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, hit the like button on the announcement.
