Yahoo to hire 200 laterals in India

BANGALORE, INDIA: Yahoo India is looking at increasing the local team strength by strengthening up the middle layer. It is said to be hiring around 200 laterals for various responsibilities.

This is in sync with the company’s India expansion strategy. As reported earlier, Jeff Russakow, executive vice president, Customer Advocacy, Yahoo, shared that Yahoo India is looking at expanding its operations in the country. Russakow said that the company has hiring plans in India but would not disclose details as he is not authorized to.

According to the latest updates on Yahoo India Careers, these openings are largely for Bangalore. The openings range for various profiles from  middle to top management like Sr Tech C++, Technical Lead, Principal Engineer to Head (Operations Finance). The experience range from 7-16 years, and the salaries range from Rs 70 lakh and above, annually.

The requirement is largely for the Yahoo Software development, Yahoo R&D and a few for the Yahoo Labs, for the Yahoo properties like Yahoo! Podcasts, Yahoo! Audio Search, Yahoo! Hotjobs, Yahoo! SpamGuard+, Behavioral Targeting, consumer-centric data driven products and marketing applications to name a few.

Yahoo had recently opened a new Research Engineering group which will work closely with the existing Advanced Technology Group (ATG) run by Arun Ramanujapuram in Bangalore. ATG is committed to ensuring that the state of the scientific art is brought to market in Yahoo! products and services. The core strengths of the group are in the areas of image and video analysis, text mining and web services.

With regards to the qualifications for principal engineer with Application Group in Yahoo Bangalore, one of the job portals says:

“As a principal engineer, your job will entail designing and developing high performance and scalable applications which will be used by millions of users. You will be guiding and mentoring a development team with clean architecture & sound design. Your job profile will include working with leads & architects across geographies to insure interoperability, maximize reuse and following best design practices. In this role, you will be expected to interact with Product managers to understand business requirements…”

The Yahoo! India Research & Development Centre in Bangalore is said to have already crossed the 1,000-person threshold and continues to grow rapidly.
