The launch was a part of its initiative to “drive the conversion from inkjets to lasers,” according to a Xerox statement released here.

Announcing the launch of new products, Natesh Mani, executive director, New Office Group, Xerox, said, “Xerox is actively leading the conversion drive to Lasers as they score over Inkjets due to a variety of reasons. Laser printers are three to five times faster in printing speeds, yield sharper printouts and have a lower cost of ownership when compared to Inkjet printers. We are also actively driving the market shift from 'mono' to 'color' printers in the Indian marketplace.”

The monochrome and color laser printer market in India was expected to grow to about 3.7 lakh units in 2006 according to IDC. Xerox said quoting an IDC Asia Pacific report that the laser printer market was projected to grow by 11 percent in 2006 vis-à-vis inkjet printers, which was expected to show a negative growth of 7 percent.

“Xerox Phaser 3121 is a monochrome laser printer targeted at small and mid-sized offices,” the statement said. Equipped with a print speed of 17 ppm and a resolution of 600 dpi, this printer displayed advanced features such as N-Up printing, watermark & poster printing.

Planned as an entry-level multifunction laser copier/printer targeted at personal users and small and medium office workgroups, WorkCentre PE 114e displayed an output of 14 ppm (A4) and 600 dpi image quality.
