Critics are frowning at the idea, but a Southampton, UK, crematorium is unperturbed. Starting today, it is offering “pay-per-view funerals” to those who wish to pay homage to the departed souls, a report said.

“We’re not putting the services on to the Internet for anyone to watch. Security is very important. It’s all about offering a better service to... bereaved,” The Guardian quoted the crematorium manager, Trevor Mathieson, as saying.

The report said a discreetly set up digital camera will record the funeral services and the bereaved family will be given a username and password for £75.

DVDs and audio recordings of funerals will also be made available for £50 and £25, respectively.

The Reverend Gary Philbrick, area dean for Southampton, said that he personally did not like the idea of being filmed during a funeral.

“There are a lot of good things about it,” he, however, said.
