Worklight to support iOS 5, Android, Windows Mango

NEW YORK, USA: Worklight, HTML5, hybrid and native mobile app platform for smartphones and tablets has announced that it has extended support for the latest operating systems of the three major mobile platforms — Apple’s iOS 5, Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

Worklight continues to ensure its enterprise customers' and partners' mobile apps remain future-proof as new emerging environments and devices are introduced to the market.

With enhanced support for the latest mobile operating systems, the company claims that it aims to provide direct access to new HTML5 and JavaScript APIs.

"One of the greatest challenges for enterprise developers and mobile architects is to keep up with an ever-changing mobile landscape, as the major platforms constantly push the technology forward," said Shahar Kaminitz, Worklight CEO.

"Our rapid approach to mobile development, addressing increasingly complex customer mobile needs, results in less resources required for rollouts of cross-platform apps and reduced risk for the enterprise," added Kaminitz.

According to the release, native capabilities introduced with each of the latest OS versions as follows:.

* iOS 5: Numerous HTML5 capabilities such as Web Workers, web history, new web form controls, inline SVG, MathML, Compass support and more

* Android 4.0: New user interface components and capabilities, input types and text services, and enhanced accessibility APIs

* Windows Phone 7.5: Improved HTML5 and CSS3 support with the introduction of IE9, user experience and usability features such as app dormant state and improved live tiles

The release further added that, the new platform enables rich, cross-platform apps without requiring code translation or proprietary interpreters, and enables advanced features such as hybrid coding, unified push notifications, direct update and more.

Therefore, companies using Worklight’s open approach are not dependent on intermediary layers or vendor-specific API availability and are ensured compatibility with all major mobile platforms, it added.
