The OEM arm of $902 million Wipro Limited has priced its latest Super Genius 800 gx-p at Rs 37,000 and targeted at Corporates and high performance desktop users. While a regular Pentium 4 PC from Wipro’s stable cost about Rs 30,000, the latest HT technology is projected to give that extra power for high performance, simultaneous multiple applications users.

Intel Technologies, South Asia, Director, Sales, GB Kumar said, "We will continue to concentrate on the 2.8 GHz range, both HT and non HT, for the next quarter at least. Beginning April we will look to 3 GHz and above. The chipset support will remain with 865 G for the next six months at least as we want to offer consistency to our customers".

On the importance of Linux PCs to Wipro Infotech, Personal Computing Products, GM, Anil Jain said, "The combination of Intel and Windows is the highest growing in a market that is on a growth track. Some parts of the market use different standards, which include non-Intel and non-Windows configurations. Linux is not a core standard for us and forms only five percent to eight percent of our shipments to specific customer segments who require the same."

He also opined that the market was ready to accept HT in a big way and expected a ‘crossover’ (as in more than 50 per cent of PC users) to the technology globally within the next quarter while clarifying that India is relatively lower in the adoption scale. He also said that the desktop space was not ripe, either in ecosystem or on the usage front, for 64-bit technology yet and that Intel will wait for the market to manifest before it launches the same.
