BANGALORE: Hewlett Packard has signed Wipro Technologies as its System
Integrator to address the global market of the Telecom Service Providers. The
Telecom and Internet Service provider division of the Indian software giant will
jointly develop and deploy network management solutions for global customers.
While HP will benefit by selling the software and in licensing, Wipro will
gain by Consulting, System Intergration, Implementation and maintenance. Wipro,
incidentally, becomes the first Indian firm to sign with HP as a System
Integration partner for global market.
The Telecom and ISP division of Wipro Technologies was re-structured and
formed in October 2000. The firm has already signed a contract with a global
cable ISP for deploying solutions in association with HP and will look for
several more projects in the global market place by the end of this fiscal.
Wipro's Telecom Service Provider division's chief executive T K Kurien said,
"New generation service provider seek comprehensive frameworks for network
management solutions to reduce go-to-market time. This alliance will help our
clients improve return on investment and increase transparency in sharing
service level information with their end users."
The relationship also extends into hardware and peripherals apart from this
particular alliance. HP's Infrastructure and Software services for APAC region
(general manager) Steve Au Yeung said, "HP has a complete solutions suite
of world class solutions for service creation. Wipro will be able to help
Telecom and Network Service Providers to develop, integrate and deploy services
quickly."
On the exclusivity of the partnership, Au-Yeung added, "Wipro is a
global solutions provider and their domain knowledge and expertise in the
Telecom sector will help HP in increasing its penetration in the local
market."
