The IT services major, Wipro today has announced 9.5% pay raise to employees in India this year, effective June 1, 2016.

The average pay raise is 9.5% for offshore employees and 2% for onsite employees.

"High performers will be rewarded with substantially higher increases in their compensation,” said Saurabh Govil, Chief Human Resources Officer, Wipro Limited.

This is a big cheer for the Wipro employees as the raise is good, when compared to the hikes announced by bigger rivals TCS and Infosys.

TCS has increased salaries of its employees in India by 8-12% this year and by 2-6% for those working onsite, while Infosys has given an average pay raise in the range of 6-12% and about 1-2% for employees onsite.

"Given that margins are under pressure and Wipro’s  growth has been lower in comparison to IT Sector average for last seven years. This step could help new CEO – Mr. Neemuchwala to retain and attract new talents from competition for his new turn-around strategy of growth and targeting integrated multi-service deals," said Thomas George, SVP & Head, CMR.

In fact, after reporting Q4 with a minor miss on both top-line growth and margins, this could be the bottom before Wipro's new CEO’s strategy starts to turn around things.

However, in order to execute the new strategy, you got to align the team with new goal and prepare the available resource and align them with the newer vision. Onboarding the larger employee base with the new vision and goal needs to be streamlined along with added incentives. We have seen this happening with many other companies and Infosys also did the same.
