Wipro enters into a Strategic Alliance with Symbian for Mobile Computing

BANGALORE: Wipro Technologies has entered into a strategic partnership with Symbian, a company engaged in creating the standard platform for wireless devices. Wipro will set up the Wipro Symbian Competence Center for the development of a wide range of smartphones and communicators.



Symbian is owned jointly by Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, Matsushita and Psion, all players in the mobile computing and telecommunications industry arena. Under this partnership, Wipro will offer a mixture of business development, engineering and project management skills to Symbian and its licensees.



"The Wipro Symbian Competence Centre will strengthen our integrated service offerings for the emerging Mobile Computing market," said Wipro Technologies chief executive of global R&D Division Dr A.L.Rao. "By adding Symbian competency to our expertise in the areas of VLSI / System, Embedded Systems and Communication Technologies, we have enhanced our offerings for complete Product Development services."



According to a press release issued by the company, Wipro Technologies is among leading software development and system integration companies in the world initially appointed by Symbian. The ten other partners are ARM, Cadence, Vanteon, Omron, Teleca, Kanrikogaku Kenkyusho, Dextra, Digia, Phoenix and Zi Corp. Covering USA, India, Far East and Europe, these companies offer a wide range of system integration, product creation and development skills. With these industry leaders Symbian is building up a strong wireless community based on the Symbian platform to create significant value to mobile users bringing together content, services and technology onto WIDs, says the press release.
