Wipro estimates desktop management efficiency gains of 20 percent and looks forward to stronger computer security from the upgrade.

With approximately 60,000 desktop computers all over the world, Wipro is always looking for more efficient ways to deploy, manage, and secure these assets and increase user productivity. The company had long run the Windows XP operating system on all its client computers but realized that it needed to update the operating system software to maintain support from Microsoft and take advantage of the latest Microsoft innovations.

Also, mobile employees were having trouble accessing corporate information from portable computers, and many employees wasted time every day searching for information on their computers.

“Our desktop and portable computers are critical to our ability to function as a company and be competitive,” says Laxman K. Badiga, chief information officer at Wipro Limited. “We wanted to make these critical assets even easier to use, easier to manage, and more secure, so we could spend more time creating revenue-producing solutions for customers.”

The IT staff had its hands full keeping desktop images current and supporting thousands of users in so many locations. Troubleshooting computer problems took a great deal of time, which sapped both end users’ and IT staff members’ productivity. The IT staff also worried that Wipro had insufficient protection from malicious software and Web sites, and too little control over data transported on portable storage devices.
