Wipro brand in PC, server grows steadily

BANGALORE: Bangalore-based Wipro Infotech's branded PCs (Super Genius) and Server (Netpower) have steadily grown in the quarter ended September 30, 2002, registering a growth of 16 percent and 47 percent, respectively, in units as against the corresponding period last year.

"We sold 19,000 units of our PCs in this quarter as against 16,350 units during the same period last year, while the market is estimated to have grown only by 6 percent in units. On the other hand we sold 900 units of our branded server in the quarter as against last year’s 612, while the market is estimated to have remained flat in units. Wipro won customer recognition as IT Brand of the Year by PC Quest in its Users Choice survey," said Wipro Infotech, President, Suresh Vaswani.

Some of the customer gains for the PCs and server business include the NIIT project of for computerization of 663 Government schools in Andhra Pradesh, which fetched a single large order of 7,200 PCs. Others project wins are security consulting comprising risk assessment and enterprise security design for a large Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer, development and implementation of performance information management system for a hotel chain in Hong Kong and document management solutions for a Taiwan based telecom company completing the notable wins.



The company’s Infrastructure Management Services grew by 35 percent and System Integration business grew by 71 percent year on year basis. The technology products business grew in all our product segments above the estimated market growth. The Enterprise Server and storage business grew by over 60 percent in value, while the market growth is estimated to be 20-25 percent, the networking business grew by 8 percent in a market estimated to be flat.

"During the quarter, our value added Services grew by 27 percent on a year on year basis. In the high-end Services space, Colgate Palmolive India chose Wipro Infotech as its technology partner and signed a long term Services contract. Other notable wins during the quarter include an end to end ERP implementation for Riyadh Pharma and IT Operations Management services project with Dubai Municipality, " added Vaswani.

The software services revenue of Wirpo Infotech have tripled on a year on year basis and more than doubled on a sequential basis. It has 16 new projects during the quarter taking the total projects during the year to 30.



The company’s revenues for quarter ended September 30th 2002, touched Rs 220 crore, representing 17 percent higher on a year on year basis. For the half-year ended 30th September 2002, revenues were recorded at Rs 410 crore, growing at 19 percent on a year on year basis.
