Wind River to power Xanavi’s telematics system

P>BANGALORE: US based embedded software and service provider, Wind River Systems, Inc., has bagged an order from Japanese firm, Xanavi Informatics Corporation for its next generation Telematics System " CARWINGS".

CARWINGS is a telematics system developed with Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system and TORNADO integrated development environment. Nissan recently adopted the CARWINGS system for its newly remodeled 'March' automobile, drawing enthusiastic attention in Japan as one of the first inexpensive vehicles to offer car infotainment and telematics features.

Xanavi’s Manager, Product Research & Development Division, Naito Masafumi, said, "Our development team was impressed by the integration of Wind River's software, development tools, extensive networking protocols and graphics capabilities for telematics development, resulting in a quicker development cycle to get CARWINGS to market." "Wind River's superb track record in various market categories, its extensive technological expertise in the integration of embedded systems, and its powerful support capabilities also prompted our decision to use Wind River technology for CARWINGS."



CARWINGS provides a comprehensive solution for users' telematic needs with innovative features, such as a steering switch that can be maneuvered while driving, a voice command system for hands-free calling, voice guides, e-mail access, and display of the vehicle's position using GPS. It also provides Drive Route Assist (DRA) service as well as an automatic DJ service, and a wide range of information displayed interactively on a 4.2-inch LCD screen. The terminal takes advantage of the reliability, stability, and innovative technologies provided by Wind River's VxWorks and Tornado technologies to make state-of-the-art telematics services available to car owners.
