Wind River launches products for embedded Linux

BANGALORE: Wind River Systems, the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced its latest Embedded Linux initiatives and Embedded Linux product offerings at the 'Wind River Embedded Linux Seminar 2005', held in the city.






Talking about the Embedded Linux initiatives, Ajit Edlabadkar Country Manager-India, Wind River, said "The key initiatives would be to provide world class development tools which will support the development on both Linux as well as VxWorks. These will be supplemented by an industry standard distribution of embedded Linux, which supports interoperability with VxWorks as well. The technologies will be backed up by strong support and consulting services of Wind River".





Continuing its strategic shift into Embedded Linux, Wind River today announced the launch of two new products, targeted at Embedded Linux users.





Wind River announced the general availability in India of "Wind River Workbench 2.0", an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that supports the end-to-end devise software development process. Wind River Workbench 2.0 is going to be Wind River's de facto integrated development environment offering, for both VxWorks and Linux, enabling the company to provide the Linux development community with the same industry leading development tools and development environment that VxWorks users have always taken advantage of.





Based on Eclipse, the open and extensible development framework, Workbench 2.0 fully integrates and optimizes the development environment. It also supports Linux distributions and helps companies drive development standardization enterprise-wide, reduce their software costs and ultimately, get their end product to market faster.





Wind River, also announced today the Wind River Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition. Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition is Wind River's first Platform that includes a complete Linux reference file system with a rich set of networking middleware and applications. Based on the Linux 2.6 kernel with Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) 2.01 features, Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition also includes Wind River Workbench 2.2. With Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition and Platform for Network Equipment, VxWorks Edition, telecommunication manufacturers can develop and run the complete range of network equipment applications from core and enterprise to access and edge devices.





Platform for Network Equipment, Linux Edition is particularly well suited for developing the control and management system software in wireless infrastructure systems, soft switches, media gateways, DSLAMSs, cable headends, multi-service switches, optical switches and core routers.
