The event is aimed at providing an opportunity to Web designers and interactive designers a place to meet, share ideas and set up partnerships within the melting pot of latest innovations.

Announcing this at a press conference, Aude Bourliataux, in-charge of public relations and international business development, WIF said: “The WIF comprises a competition called Webjam and other activities including conferences and meetings led by noted specialists from the Web designing industry.” Since October 20, professional and amateur Web designers have been registering to participate in the Webjam contest pre-selections, she said.

The pre-selections will be held online on Jan 18th 2008 and will be open to any Web designer, interactive developer and graphic designer, gathered in teams of 2 to 4. The theme to work on will be revealed on the D-Day and the competitors will have precisely 24 hours to create a graphic, interactive and dynamic interface, Aude said.

So far, Aude said, 21 countries have subscribed to the 2008 event were Brazil and Tunisia will hold the physical pre-selection process.

The event was first set up in 1999 under the name Marathon de I’Internet Creátif. The 2006 edition was WIF. Winners of the 2004 contest were a France team who won a whopping 60,000 Euros and winners of WIF 2006 edition from America won a worldwide tour, Aude said. However, the winning prize for the 2008 edition is yet to be announced.

The organizers have entered into a partnership with Adobe and are working closely to tie up with Microsft, Apple and Air France for the 2008 event. The organizers are doing their best to get Asian countries to participate in the event. “This is the first time we are approaching India, which is growing strong in web designing. We have a couple of subscribers from India. We want India, Japan and China be part of this festival,” she said.

Organisers of WIF are also looking for local partners like Web agencies, independent Web designers to make promotions on the Internet. “We will extend help to those interested in organizing the physical pre-selection in India,” Aude said.
