Do more than just a chat or a text message. The new document sharing feature makes WhatsApp a new platform to access the world of internet. Along with its other features like sharing audios, video clips, pictures, you can now send pdf files up to 15 MB limit over the instant messaging app.
To use the feature, the sender and receiver should own the latest version i.e. Android v2.12.453 and iOS v2.12.14. Also, the limit is set at 15 MB. If you want to send a document from your android device, you need to tap the paper clip attachment icon on the top right of the screen in a chat window and select the 'Document' option. After which you can choose from the list of PDF files stored in the system and shoot. In the case of iOS device, hitting on the ‘Upload’ icon will now show a ‘Share Document’ option among others that will allow you to share documents from other apps.
The messenger app still provides only six stands of options. Adding a new option means removing an old title. Initially, there were two different options for sending photo and video. Whereas, after the latest update, there is just one for Camera. When you tap on camera option, you'll receive another small popup on your screen that questions if you want to take a photo or shoot video.
Though the Facebook-owned WhatsApp Messenger is little late in implementing the option of Document-sharing, when compared with competitors like Telegram, WeChat, however, looking at the user base of WhatsApp, this feature will be a sure hit with business and organizational groups.
Few more improvements to the application have been introduced too. The new version brings over 100 new emojis, Google Drive Backup for chats and media, support for 5 new languages, and is also compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For the IOS users, it lets users share photos or videos from other apps such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or Microsoft OneDrive. In addition, users can pick from a set of solid colors for chat background. Besides an improved design for browsing photos and videos, iOS users can even zoom in on videos while they are playing.
