'We offer support for any PC': One Care

BANGALORE: First sight Computing India has announced the launch of its wholly owned subsidiary — One Care Computing to offer nationwide, vendor neutral, technical support and warranty administration for personal computing products.

“When we tried to understand the reasons behind the stalling of the PC market in India we came to the conclusion that a lack of relevance coupled with the non-availability of reliable support prevents PC penetration in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. One Care attempts to rectify this lack by bringing quality service and support facilities to every small town and village in the country and thereby improve the penetration of computing devices in the nation,” said One Care Computing COO Guhesh Ramanathan.

With an investment of $ one million, the company would target device manufacturers like PC OEMs and end users such as corporate houses, SMEs and home consumers for its services. In the last three months of operation since inception, the organization has set up six service centers and plans to build this to eight cities, including Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad by the end of the year.

'We will work on the hub and spoke model whereby the main centers will be in the metros with smaller centers operating in the interiors. While at the moment we offer only services related to PCs, we will be expanding this to cover network support, server configuration, data migration and back-up, remote support along with gaming and tech consumer products in the future,' said Ramanathan.

He added that the number of cities would reach 40 cities by March 2004 and the year 2005 would involve further roll out into smaller cities. He also said that as long as operational consistency could be maintained One Care had no objection to forming a franchisee network in the country.
