BANGALORE: In a bid to capitalize on the trend of Indian companies looking to establish a presence in Europe, the Welsh Development Agency (WDA) would be setting up an office in Bangalore this month. The office is expected to help Indian companies have a base in Wales.

According to WDA, Hong Kong executive VP Andrew Davis, assistance would be provided in the form of financial assistance, relocation advice and information on infrastructure facilities available in Wales.

WDA has already assisted companies like Tata Consultancy Services (through its association with British Telecom), Wockhardt and Info Fuji, set up shop in Wales. The agency hopes to attract Indian companies in the areas of IT, biotech, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing which would be interested in having a gateway to Europe through Wales.

A recent UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) report estimates that the number of Indian businesses investing in the UK has increased by 47 percent in 2003-04 over the previous year and there are currently 480 Indian companies in UK.

This makes India an important market for WDA in the APAC region.

WDA India VP Shayra Sethi will head the India office.
