Wacom sets up Indian subsidiary

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Wacom, a provider of natural interface technologies, today announced the setting up of its Indian subsidiary which will be headed by Toshinori Nagasawa, managing director for the company's South East and South Asia business.

“India is a growing economy and consumer of many products and services. Design is one of the key element in development of any product. This is the right time for us to establish ourselves in India market,” said Masahiko Yamada, president and CEO, Wacom, while announcing the launch of its Indian subsidiary and its new digital pen tablet Bamboo One.

Nagasawa will hold the position of president of Wacom India along with his present responsibility as MD, South East and South Asia.

“We have been present in India since 2010. We have great plans for Indian market. In the coming year, we are going to enhance our visibility in the Indian market. Wacom India has a target to register a year-on-year growth of 50 per cent,” said Nagasawa.

Nagasawa mentioned that Indian consumers will be first to get hand on experience on Bamboo One developed by the company.

Wacom launched two models of Bamboo One in the price range of Rs 4000 and Rs 3000 for Indian consumers. This pen tablet acts as interface with design software present a user's PC.

“With mouse it's not easy to make design. Bamboo One will help designers to precisely make designs. It can be connected with any PC through USB port and it does not require battery for power but runs on power from ethernet,” said Nagasawa.

Wacom claims to have shipped close to 50 thousand of its products unit in India.

“The number of units shipped to India will increase with the launch of Bamboo One,” said Yamada.

Yamada said that at present, Wacom revenues from India is less than a per cent but in other fiver years time he expects India contribution to be between 5 to 10 per cent of its global revenues.
