HYDERABAD: The fire which people believe broke out in the early hours became so strong that the shop has left nothing but charred remains of computer peripherals and the entire cellar of CTC has been left with the black signature of fire.

This accident has left all the Hyderabad dealers are in a state of shock, the dealers association has called for a one-day bandh because of the chaotic situation.

"Someone from the nearby tea shop saw smoke coming out from the cellar at around 4:30 in the morning. Fire tenders were called in only at around 6’o clock and it took them more than five long hours to extinguish the fire and smoke," said, KVR Menon, President at Twin Cities Computer Dealers Association (TCCDA).

Fire has destroyed everything inside the Vishal Computers 300-sq. ft. godown, including about 300 Samsung monitors, laser printers, a large number of hard disks, CD copiers and Dot Matrix Printers. The total loss of caused by the fire is estimated to be in the range of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

"It is really a bad situation for Vishal Computers as they don’t even have any insurance. So they will have to start right from the scratch," Menon added. Six fire tenders were used to overpower the fire. Though the police investigations are going on, CTC shop owners believe that the fire was caused by candlelight.

It is interesting to note that there was no electricity at the godown of Vishal Computers, so the possibility of a short circuit is ruled out. "Every time they needed something from the godown, a boy used to find it with the help of a candle because there was no electric supply at the godown and this may have caused the fire," speculated a CTC shop owner.

With more than 70 shops, CTC building and the cellar is more than 22 years old and this is the first time it has seen a major fire like this. "There are a lot of fire extinguishers at the cellar but we have not used them before as there was no need for it till now. So everything was pretty old, but now I think we need to take some concrete steps to increase the security," added another shop owner at CTC on condition of anonymity.

Vishal Computers, one of the most successful channel player for Samsung, started its operations about six years back and it was only recently that the company started showing some good touch. It is noteworthy that Samsung has chosen Vishal Computers for its world cup offer and was to take Vishal Computers people on a trip for the India, Pakistan match this Saturday.
