Virgin Mobile offers 200 free SMSs per day!

BANGALORE, INDIA: Virgin Mobile, today announced a new youth focused SMS package that allows all Virgin subscribers to send 200 SMSs free per day.

The youth focused brand's new SMS package opens a new era free SMS services allows users to send 100 local and 100 national SMSs every day after paying for the first three SMSs of the day. The free SMSs can be sent to any network.

M. A Madhusudan, CEO of Virgin Mobile India, said that the youths use SMSs as an important tool to lead a life of their choice. But due to the price text pricing parity, sending SMSs are generally expensive. "By introduction of the new, free SMS proposition, we hope to expand out customer base, particularly the younger generation, in a big way," he added.

The free SMS offer will be available to all Virgin Mobile subscribers across the county without any extra monthly commitment/upfront payment or pack. The first three local SMSs sent will be charged at 50p each, which is the base tariff, post which 100 SMSs are free daily. The first three national SMSs are charged at Rs 1.50, post which 100 national SMSs are free daily.

All new subscribers and the existing subscribers who are already on the new 50 paise and old 50 paise local tariff can avail this benefit by recharging their account.

Expansion plans

Talking on the Virgin Mobile's expansion plans in Karnataka, Madhusudhan said that the company was planning to increase the foot print in a big way in the next three to four months. As of today, Virgin's mobile service is available in nine cities of the Karnataka state.

The Virgin Mobile India CEO observed that company has a long drawn plan focused on the younger generation of mobile phone users in India. "We expect about 50 million youth joining the mobile subscribers base in the next couple of years and are confident of capturing 10 percent of market share in the next three to four years," he added.
