NEW DELHI: In a bid to be a part of the burgeoning software market, Vidur, the Co-winner of the DQ Week Best Reseller award for two consecutive years, has become the distributor for the Microsoft software products. "Hardware sector has not remained as much profitable as the software sector. It has become difficult to earn profits, which is important if one who wants to survive in the market," pointed out Keshav Madhav, Director, Vidur & Co.

"Thus, we planned to enter the software sector. Reason for choosing Microsoft was that we thought that Microsoft could not address the entire market properly and that we will be able to address the market through the channels, in an organized manner", he added.

Microsoft Software has three divisions namely OEM(Other Equipment Manufacturers), FPP ( Full Packaged Products) and MOLP(Microsoft Open Licensing Program). Vidur is the distributor only for the FPP software, targeted mainly towards the home and the SMEs. In Delhi, there are just two distributors for FPP Software. Confessed Madhav, "The level of profit is higher in this segment as compared to the hardware sector and, apart from this one can also provide service solutions to customers."

Apart from this, the company has now started focussing more on the services sector. Earlier, Vidur used to provide services for free, but not any longer. According to Madhav, this sector is also coming up quite fast and profits are assured here. "We have improved our Turn Around Time (TAT) and most of our products have nearly 24 hours TAT," he said. TAT is the time period in which one can service the product.

Seeing how this sector can become a cash cow, Vidur has increased the number of manpower in this field and plans to further strengthen the service sector. "We do not shy away from sending our engineers for training," said Madhav. But, he cautioned that it is not a fast moving market. "It took us years to build a credibility in the market and now we are reaping the benefits. It is a sector in which one has to slog before one can reap the fruits."

Not only this, the company has added one more product in its kitty. It has become the SASI for the Samsung powered PCs in Agra. This is also an area where Vidur has started to focus on and might even take distributorship of PCs from other OEMs in Delhi, though the idea is still in the pipeline.

This distributorship for Microsoft would include distributing the product range of the FPP segment, which includes Access, Commerce Server, Excel, Front Page, Office, Outlook to name a few. With this new initiative, Madhav plans to churn out better profits and create a healthier bottomline for Vidur.
