NEW DELHI: With a view to replicate the success of its first CAD-CAM
education center in Bangalore, Videocon will now venture into an expansion
within India and abroad. As part of this venture, Videocon has teamed up with
Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) to provide Indian companies and
individuals with a global standard of CAD-CAM training.
The company is planning to open centers at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata,
Hyderabad and an overseas center in Milan over the next six months. The setting
up of each center would cost around Rs 3 crore, said a senior official of
Videocon. These centers will have modern high-end workstations and all systems
will be networked to a high-speed server. A fully stocked reference library with
the latest CAD-CAM periodicals and CDs will provide guidance to the students.
PTC will provide the learning material while Videocon will provide the
infrastructure. The company will promote the program under the "Videocon
CAD-CAM Education Center". Like the centers that come with a PTC
certification, the faculty too will be PTC certified and will be picked from the
industry itself.
The centers will provide modular and structured course programs with the
technical know-how of Videocon experts. The two-month course will have a batch
of 20 students. The fee for the entire course is Rs 35,000.
Looking at the growing need for trained professionals, Videocon came up with
its first center in Bangalore in September 2000. Till date, around 80 students
have been shortlisted for different companies. The prerequisite for the course
is a diploma or a degree in mechanical engineering.
After completion of the course, students will get the Pro-E global
certification, which gives them the option to pursue a career either in India or
abroad. The courses, which are being offered both on a full-time and part-time basis, offer inputs on CAD consulting and services.
