PUNE: It has indeed been a year of upheavals for the software industry. First

it was Ganesh Natarajan who called it quits from Aptech and now it is Datapro

Infoworld Ltd., CEO (sales and support division) K R Venkatraman to follow suit.

Venkatraman has quit Datapro Infoworld, a Pune-based IT services company, to

join a US-based start-up.

He, however, remained tightlipped about the new company he plans to join

shortly. "It will be known shortly. All I can say at the moment is that the

company is based in the US and has an off-shore development center in Pune."

"My 12-year stint at Datapro has been an immense learning experience for

me," he told the CNS, when asked to describe his decade long association

with the company. Venkatraman, who has been closely involved with distribution,

was also responsible for setting up a division that looked into Datapro’s

software services. The division also looks into all matters relating to

installations, network integration, among other things.

On his role in the new company, Venkatraman said he would be the vice

president (operations) for an offshore development center which has been in

existence in Pune for the past one year. He will also be responsible for

operations and will look after domestic and global marketing.

Venkatraman, who specializes in channel marketing, has a commerce background

and has 18 years of experience in the IT industry. He began his career with

International Data Processing Co Ltd., and later joined Datapro as branch

manager in Delhi to set up the sales and support network.

He moved to Pune as manager-marketing services from where he was promoted as

deputy general manager — (marketing and sales for the Microsoft division).

Datapro is distributor for Microsoft. He also looked after the Channel Products

Group that includes Microsoft, Citrix, Visio, Frontier Technology and APC.
