OSLO, NORWAY; LONDON, UK & NEW YORK, USA: Varnish Software, the company behind Varnish Cache, announced the release of Varnish Cache 4.0.

Advertisment

The release includes significant improvements such as enhanced security and streaming, improved logging as well as the ability to write load balancing directors more easily than ever before.

Previous versions of Varnish Cache offered only limited support for streaming. Varnish Cache 4.0 includes full streaming support, cutting down delivery times for larger objects and decreased latency when accessing content through cache hierarchies.

Varnish Cache 4.0 introduces the option to set read-only parameters. Once up and running, the read-only parameters can not be changed through the command line interfaces. This reduces the likelihood of people successfully executing an escalation of privileges attack. The ability to include inline C code in the configuration file comes optional with Varnish Cache 4.0 with the default being disabled.
