Uttarakhand flood: Netizens establish relief fund and information service

The fury of Himalayan Tsunami with Kedarnath as an epicenter led to a toll of hundreds who feared dead, nearly 15,000 missing and 100,000 stranded has raised inquisitiveness among many Webizens across geographies. While the relatives and friends of those visiting temple town desperately seek information, the Facebookers set up communities to help victims and raise funds while Twitterati (under a hastag: #Uttarakhand) put real-time updates.

Meanwhile, Internet giant Google has launched Person Finder- an online tool available in both Hindi and English languages that allows individuals to post information on missing persons or those trapped in the affected areas. The tool, Google said, is currently tracking more than 1,000 records. It allows people to throw search with names and the app generates pictures (if available in databank) together with victims' addresses.

Besides, Google's customized initiative, hordes of Netizens, in pursuit to support flood victims, have now tweeting instantaneously. While Facebookers have set up as many as dozen of communities such as Uttarakhand flood disaster 2013: information, help and relief; Uttarakhand Flood Relief Charity; and Rescue Tourists and People from Flood in Uttarakhand.
