BANGALORE: A US
delegation, led by senator Michael B Enzi was here in the city to experience
and get first hand information on developments taking place in India, especially
Bangalore. Other members of the delegation were Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator
Johnny Isakson and Ms. Margaret Spellings, US Education Secretary. Following US
President George W. Bush's visit to India and signing of the nuclear deal
between India and US, there has been lots of interest among the US business
community to build good relationships with their Indian counterparts and expand
the scope for business.
Speaking at the dinner hosted by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce
(BCIC) on Wednesday, 12th April, 2006, Senator Michael B Enzi said, “We are
serious in deepening our relationship with India, as India is fast emerging as a
key market in the world. There are huge opportunities for joint collaboration
between the two countries in the areas of trade/investment such as
Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, Telecommunications, IT, Software Development among
others.
“Information Technology and Software Development have propelled India as an
economic powerhouse. Most importantly India is reaping the benefits that
globalization brings through off-shoring. Indian companies are benefiting from offshoring
not only to India but also to other emerging economies through
competitiveness”, he added.
Addressing the delegation Anant R. Koppar, President, BCIC said, “Bangalore
has always played an extremely important role in the Indo — US relations.
There is a large presence of US Multinational companies in Bangalore, which
demonstrates the synergies that exists between the two countries and
communities. Whether the world is flat or spherical, there is no doubt that
globalization will continue to become a way for businesses to grow. The visit of
the US senators to Bangalore shows the importance of Bangalore in the world of
globalized goods and services.”
