Unitrends's rapid recovery platform for SMBs

COLUMBIA: Unitrends, a leading provider of innovative, integrated solutions that protect and restore critical data and systems, has announced the availability of its newest Data Protection and Rapid Recovery 3.1 platform for small and medium businesses (SMB). The new product enables customers to simplify their backup and recovery solutions, with centralized management capabilities, support for an unprecedented 30+ operating systems, as well as additional applications, and integrated solutions for VMware, allowing customers to reduce management costs and increase performance. The company also announced the availability of its higher capacity Multi-Drive Archive System, which can accommodate up to 30 terabytes of uncompressed data per disk set, providing customers with the ability to archive significant volumes with near-instant recovery.

ESG Research reveals that 77 percent of SMB organizations would be very or somewhat likely to rely on a single vendor for their data protection solutions. Unitrends disk-to-disk solution addresses backup, archiving, bare metal recovery and electronic vaulting for disaster recovery, said Lauren Whitehouse, an analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. While other SMB products on the market address various aspects of data protection and disaster recovery, Unitrends Rapid Recovery Solutions integrate all the data protection and recovery functionality and management capabilities a SMB needs into one complete and integrated solution.

Unitrends Data Protection and Rapid Recovery 3.1 includes integrated support for VMwares ESX 3.0 Server Backup and VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) and enhanced Windows support, providing support for virtualization environments as well as Microsoft SQL MSDE and Exchange 2007 in addition to a Centralized Management Console and enhanced user interface for superior ease of use and system manageability.

Latest rapid recovery advances for the SMB

The enhanced IT systems management, virtualization and vaulting performance of Unitrends Data Protection and Rapid Recovery 3.1 includes features such as:

  • Enhanced Vaulting Performance that reduces vaulting windows and improves bandwidth utilization by enabling block-level data to be transmitted more quickly, efficiently and reliably from Unitrends Data Protection Units (DPUs) to its Data Protection Vaults (DPVs).
  • Integrated Support for VMwares ESX 3.0 Server Backup and VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) and enhanced Windows support, including Microsoft SQL MSDE and Exchange 2007.
  • Broadened Operating Systems Support to include Windows Vista 64-bit desktop operating system, and other 64-bit Windows operating systems.

Higher capacity multi-drive archive system

With 4 terabytes of raw capacity, Unitrends new higher capacity Multi-Drive Archive System allows customers to use removable disk technology for archiving significant volumes of data typically in the range of 10 to 30 terabytes of uncompressed data, depending upon the specific compression ratios of the data. With removable disk-based archiving, customers enjoy near-instant recovery of data files with an extremely reliable solution that reduces the amount of media required making it an ideal medium for disaster recovery and off-site archiving. Unitrends higher capacity Multi-Drive Archive is supported by the new Data Protection and Rapid Recovery 3.1, and includes up to four drives per archive, RAID 0 configuration and is easily installed as a 1U box connected to a DPU.
