Tell me honestly how many times you have forgotten to take your medicines and thought of setting a reminder alarm on your phone for that? Well, you are not alone. But the implications are serious.

Studies say that up to 50 percent of treatment failures happen due to medication non-adherence. In fact, it is reported that medication non-adherence is the cause of more than 125,000 preventable deaths and $290 billion loss to health-care system annually in USA alone.

Created by two students from Cambridge University three years ago, UK-based startup, TinyLogics is trying to address this with a Smart Pillbox, a personal thinking assistant, which smartly reminds you when it’s time to take medicines.

TinyLogics' Memo Box Mini which is touted as the world’s smallest Smart Pillbox, got fully funded in just three days of the launch in the Kickstarter. The Pillbox even got placed as one of the most popular projects in the gadget section.

Memo Box Mini comes in at a size that easily fits in the palm of your hand and slips in your bag or purse.

It connects to your phone with Bluetooth, and reminds you when it’s time to take medicines. With GPS functionality, it alerts you  when Smart Pillbox has been forgotten on the Memo Health app. You can set tracker for your family members in the app and call them directly from the app, in case you need to call them and remind.

The pillbox automatically tracks daily consumption to prevent potential over-dosing. Unlike other app-only solutions, Memo Box Mini will automatically log a user’s medication intake, saving tedious manual input. You can even take a picture of medicine information or instructions, for future use.

“Incredibly small and light and aiming to optimize portability to cater to the mobile lifestyle of millennials, Memo Box Mini is the natural extension to the Memo Box line,” said Shan Lu, co-founder and CEO of TinyLogics. “We plan to crack the code of medication adherence with Memo Box’s unique combination of hardware and software. I cannot think of a better way to introduce Memo Box Mini and I’m so grateful to our Kickstarter community who has been there every step of the way."

Memo Box Mini is expected to be available for $29.90 later this year.
