PUNE: UGS, an enterprise solutions provider in the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) domain is open to both organic and inorganic routes to add more offerings to its portfolio.

Speaking to CyberMedia News about the gaps in PLM pack on the sidelines of UGS User Conference in the city today, Vivek Marwaha, country marketing manager, UGS India said, "We are constantly working on adding new applications to our product kitty.

These are not necessarily gaps but enrichments that are added to address specific customer needs, or integration of a new technology that comes through acquisitions apart from mainstream enhancements. The company brings out something new every two-three months. For instance, we have recently rolled out Teamcentre Research center that is targeted to process R&D folks."

The company is open to the inorganic route too as witnessed through the addition of Geolus, a search engine for geometric shapes for engineering space or the digital manufacturing via the acquisition of Tecnomatix. "Such conferences help us gain critical customer feedback that we take forth to our development team," he said.

Commenting on the UGS' mid-market strategy, Marwaha added, "Both enterprise and SME market will grow. While the former will give us new customers, the latter will see augmentation in existing deployment. In mid market, our focus will be on specifically packaged and priced tools like 'Velocity' where we have clubbed CAD, CAM and PLM in a modular framework. Another product 'Solid Edge' will help these SMEs migrate from 2D to 3D CAD."

In the enterprise segment the company will focus on expanding the category from erstwhile MDA (Mechanical Design Automation) to other applications and functionalities like supply collaboration or requirement project management.

The company currently has an India footprint of 2000 customers served by 14,000 seats besides a presence in 50 cities and around four offices. It is adding 1200 people to its 600 seat development center in Pune. "Strengthening our infrastructure is a continuous objective," he added.
