CIOL BenchMark's Bill Gurley set to leave Uber's board of directors seat

Emil Michael, SVP of business at Uber has left the ride-hailing company, confirms the company. Earlier, a report from Recode said that Michael has sent an internal email to staff informing them of his decision and that David Richter, the vice president of strategic initiatives, will be taking his place.

Michael's exit news comes after Uber's board of Directors' Sunday meeting to discuss the recommendations of an internal investigation report by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and his legal partner Tammy Albarrán.

Uber's board has apparently accepted all the suggestions put before it that could be made public today. According to Recode, Michael was pressured to step down by the board ahead of Sunday’s meeting and the only thing that remains to be seen now is whether or not CEO Travis Kalanick takes leave of absence from the company.

Michael has been Kalanick's closest confidante and is the most high-profile exit amongst the other departures or terminations since Susan Fowler published a blog post detailing systemic sexual misconduct at the company.
