Uber unveils a credit card for users

Uber has teamed up with Barclays bank to launch a credit card in the US that offers rewards for purchases at restaurants, hotels, and, of course, Uber rides.

The Uber Visa has no annual fee, and users earn $100 after they spend $500 in the first 90 days of owning the card. You'll get rewards for using the card, and they'll accrue even faster for buying food in a restaurant, booking a ride or shopping online. It also gives you a $50 credit for subscription services once you spend $5,000 in a year i.e. $50 toward Spotify, Netflix, or Amazon Prime.

"With the Uber Visa Card, you can earn rewards for all your purchases — and those rewards stack up even faster for things like grabbing dinner with a friend, booking your next trip, taking an Uber to work, or even shopping online," Uber product manager for financial products Drew Quinn wrote in a blog post.

Uber also says that cardholders can get coverage for theft or damage of their mobile devices, and invites to secret shows and dining experiences. As soon as you apply online or via Uber's app, the card will appear in your Uber app. Then the physical credit card will arrive in the mail seven to 10 days later. In the Uber app, you can see information you'd usually track in a banking app, like your credit card points balance.

Well, if you are concerned with privacy as Uber will know what you’re spending money on, the company told Engadget that only the issuing bank, Barclays, would get access to that information; all Uber will get is the aggregate amounts of money spent using these cards, and how many Uber credits each customer has earned from reward points.

The card will be available starting November 2.
