Days after Twitter increased the limit of a tweet, the social media giant has now more than doubled its count for user's display name length. Earlier the display name was limited to up to 20 characters, but now it has been expanded to up to 50 characters. Notably, the username which appears in the user's profile URL can only be up to 15 characters long.
The company announced the news in a tweet,
Starting today, your Twitter display name can be up to 50 characters in length! Go ahead, add that middle name or even a few more emojis. https://t.co/QBxx9Hnn1j

The new length means that users can add their middle name or emojis to their display names without hitting the limit. The new feature comes as a relief to those with bigger names or wants to add certain flourishes to their names.
Earlier this week, the double character limit on Twitter received a mixed response from Twitterati. The 280-character limit replaced 140-character limit which was there since the beginning.
