TAIPEI: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and AU Optronics (AUO) have propped up their individual collaboration with equipment suppliers for progress of CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-selenide) thin-film PV modules through sputtering procedure. However, both AUO and TSMC have refused to comment on the statement.
The sources indicated that TSMC and AUO will concentrate on 600mm x 1,200mm large-size panels and 50mm x 50mm panels, correspondingly.
The Taiwan-based company intend erecting a higher blockade for later CIGS entrants through close collaboration with equipment suppliers to expand restricted technologies and patents, and to lower costs.
TSMC and AUO in addition to a number of suppliers of CIGS materials and equipment have united Taiwan's CIGS Industry Alliance, that was founded on April 6, 2010 with assistance from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).
