Trend Micro unveils security strategy for 2010

BANGALORE, INDIA: Trend Micro unveiled its strategy for the year 2010, placing its focus primarily on cloud security. 'Security that fits IT' is its new strategy to help enterprises of all sizes effectively resolve their security issues, as cloud computing has become not only a buzzword but also a reality.

Cloud computing is the new platform for new applications comes with the need of new security design. Explosive growth of data, interrelated world economy, unpredictable demand and supply in economy, dynamic decision making, green initiatives, all necessitate enterprises to go for cloud computing.

New infrastructure is required for cloud computing and it provides a great business opportunity for Trend Micro to address new security threats. Its solutions ensure that enterprise data are safe from being compromised by third parties or malicious attacks. Gartner has also observed that user organizations must demand road maps for the cloud from their vendors today.

At the packed APAC press conference in Macau, China, Eva Chen, CEO, Trend Micro, said, “Cloud computing is a real change and it is here to stay. So it is a great opportunity for us to help enterprises to resolve security issues emanating from the cloud computing environment in 2010 and beyond. Trend Micro remains very focused to ensure that its solutions solve comprehensive security issues.” The shift of IT infrastructure based on cloud computing (public cloud and private cloud) requires security solutions with renewed vigor to mitigate security risks for enterprises.

The Trend Micro Smart Protection Network is a next generation cloud-client content security infrastructure designed to block threats before they reach enterprise network. By combining Internet-based – or in-the-cloud – technologies with smaller, lighter-weight clients, enterprises will have immediate access to the latest protection wherever and however they connect – from home, within the company's network or on the go. Data center virtualization security, cloud service providers security enablement, VMWare channel leverage, data leakage protection, ubiquitous access protection, identity-based data protection for public cloud, and hosted messaging/endpoint security are taken care of Trend Micro's security solutions.

Also, the increasing business opportunities in the mobile phone security space have encouraged Trend Micro to offer solutions in that space also. Oscar Chang, EVP, chief development officer & Head of APAC, Trend Micro, says, “As a part of the Trend Micro Internet Security Pro package, customers get a license for mobile security. Trend Micro Mobile security protects smartphones against viruses, SMS text message spam and other malware attacks on Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian OS-based devices; alongside preventing data theft and service disruptions.”

The wide use and increasing capabilities of smartphones and PDAs introduce security risks to the enterprise that parallel those for laptop computers. Lost or stolen devices can endanger confidential business data, compliance efforts and business reputations. Businesses suffer the costs from downtime, leaked data, infections, lost employee productivity, and cleanup.

On their strategies for achieving the ambitious goal of earning $ 2 bn revenue by 2012, speaking to Voice&Data, Eva Chen said, “Since Trend Micro's establishment in 1988, we have achieved revenue USD 1 bn by FY 2008. Our goal is to double this revenue by 2012 through a four-pronged strategy – new products, new channels, new customers, and territory expansion across the geography.”
