NEW DELHI: Trend Micro Inc has announced that it will open an office in the

country by the end of this year. According to the company, demand for Trend

Micro’s products have surged in India this year as the dramatic growth of

networking and a boom in Internet usage created a need for high-end,

server-based virus protection. The company plans to meet the demand by posting

additional staff on the sub-continent and by opening an office in India.

Trend Micro’s sales in India grew by more than 300 per cent in the first

half of 2000, and it expects to maintain this momentum for the rest of the year.

"Our products have won good response in the Indian market," said Trend

Micro director (Overseas Business Unit) Frank Leu. "The striking growth in

Internet usage and ongoing expansion of the ISP sector have given us a great

opportunity to introduce our Internet gateway solutions, including our award

winning InterScan VirusWall."

Company officials see the opening of the local office as a sign of its

long-term commitment to India. "We’ll be more accessible to customers,

partners and channel resellers," said Leu.

Trend Micro’s products are currently distributed in India by a select group

of leading systems integrators and resellers, including HCL Comnet, ACPL

Systems, Ramco Systems, Microland Ltd. and Sonata Software. The company provides

technical and product support to India and the rest of Asia round the clock from

a dedicated regional service center in Metro Manila, the Philippines. The

center, which currently employs more than 150 anti-virus and product support

engineers, will expand its staff to over 300 IT professionals. The center

manages virus analysis for Trend Micro worldwide, as well as provide product

support for Asia.
