CHENNAI: ASSA ABLOY’s HID Global Corporation, a premier manufacturer of contactless radio frequency based Access Control Cards and Readers has entered into a technical partnership with TACO MobiApps Telematics (TMT), a provider of comprehensive telematics solutions for integration of HID’s RF card readers with the trako solution to deliver enhanced security for employees of IT/ ITES companies.

The real time solution focuses on employee safety as it tracks the employees commuting to and from workplace in the company provided transport.

While this solution has been designed with the BPO and Call Center Industry in mind, with the rising number of crimes and insecurity of the staff of the sector in recent times, it could also be implemented in schools and factories to provide security as well as record point of boarding attendance for children or employees.

Each vehicle is employed with trako hardware and a HID card reader. Every time an employee boards or alights the vehicle and swipes their card, information about his/ her location, time and ID is captured. This information is transmitted from the vehicle to the trako server using GPRS connectivity and made available to the facility manager at the BPO over Internet.

Each vehicle is also fitted with two SOS buttons – one in front of the driver and another one in the passenger compartment. The SOS alerts are pre-configured to three Mobile phone numbers as decided by the BPO. An optional 2-way voice communication facility is also provided in case of any emergency.

The key issues addressed are employee safety, attendance, and schedule adherence by monitoring deviations from a planned trip, and optimum fleet utilisation.

Talking to Cyber Media News about the new product, Praveen Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, TACO MobiApps Telematics said that there was a growing concern for employee security, especially for women force in the BPO industry, considering odd shift timings.

“Our solution ensures that each employee transporting vehicle is continuously monitored without any human interference and an alarm is raised immediately at the Control Station in case a deviation is observed from the standard route. It also provides a feeling of security to the employee that an easily accessible SOS button at hand at all times,” he said further.

HID and TMT are taking his technology live to some organisations that have shown immediate interest.

On the technology being implemented Harish Vellat Managing Director of HID India said that HID had pioneered the concept of using Contactless (RFID) Card technology for gaining access into secure facilities.

“Over the years, organisations have adopted our technology for protecting their assets – Employees, Facilities and Data. In recent times, with the emergence of the IT/ ITES industry we are extending the scope of securing these assets through innovative solutions. One of these is what we have developed with TMT for mobile assets, with this technology we believe we have furthered our mission,” he added.

Harish Vellat also informed that a similar kind of technology had been put into use in a US school to track students plying in the buses as they tend to lose their stops, and when the technology was integrated into the school ID Cards, an SMS-alert was sent immediately to the parent’s mobile, once their ward gets on and off the specified bus.

Other benefit of the solution is that it provides precise location information of the vehicle (data refreshed every 30 seconds interval). It allows the BPO to verify the information on exact kilometres travelled and make payments to the transport vendors accordingly, system-generated SMS alerts for over-speeding and responding to emergencies while in transit.
