Names, addresses and phone numbers of his wife Cherie and many friends were also released.

A hacking group that calls itself "Team Poison" posted on Twitter: "Tony Blair's Private Info is getting leaked tonight, so is his Personal Advisors CV and UK MPs and Lords who supported the war in Iraq."

"We still have access to the webmail server. Phone numbers may have changed but all the information is 100 percent legit," it said.

Blair's office said the information had not been taken from his own systems but were reportedly obtained from the email account of a former staff member.
