TOKYO: Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL), a supplier of semiconductor production equipment processes a high volume of transactions with its local and global trading partners on a daily basis. The company is required to support various data exchange formats and B2B standards including RosettaNet, an XML-based standard frequently used in the high tech industries.

Its IT department also is responsible for software and hardware maintenance of its B2B system including systems management, features and functions enhancement, new product releases, etc., all of which require extensive internal resources. To simplify compliance with trading partner requirements, TEL has now chosen GXS Managed Services that includes B2B messaging services, standards translation, trading partner onboarding, community management and mapping.

"We understand the complexity of managing a B2B e-commerce project from both the technical and business process perspectives," said Kimihiko Katano, group leader of Information Systems, IT of Tokyo Electron Limited. "GXS Managed Services has simplified our B2B operations by automatically integrating with our backend systems and enabling us to connect with our key trading partners using RosettaNet. The migration from in-house to GXS Managed Services was successful and faster than it expected. It was completed seamlessly at both ends -- with our trading partners and TEL."

TEL is also expecting to achieve a significant reduction in its B2B costs. The anticipated migration time to GXS Managed Services was more than six months, but GXS was able to implement TEL within three months, exceeding the company's expectations, a press release tells. In April 2009, one of TEL's major customers, its largest U.S. vendor, first placed orders via GXS Managed Services. TEL plans to expand this service to other trading partners globally including its overseas subsidiaries.
