BANGALORE: Texas Instruments India has launched its first products based on

`Mantra' (C28X) DSP core. It has rolled two new high precision control digital

signal processors (DSPs). The new products will reduce development time

significantly, while delivering up to 12 times performance of any existing

programmable DSP controller.

The new devices are the industry's first 32-bit control DSPs with on-board

flash memory and performance up to 150 million instructions per second (MIPs).

It is targeted at industrial automation, optical networking and automotive

control applications.

TI's vice president and manager of World Wide DSP business, Greg Delagi said,

"The new DSP products are the first catalog devices based on TI's code

compatible TMS320C28x DSP Core, which is designed exclusively for control

applications and is extensible up to 400 MIPs. These two new C28 x devices along

with our eXpress DSP Real Time Software development tools are developed entirely

in our Bangalore R&D center."

Texas Instruments India's DSP and broadband products director Sham Banerji

said, "High precision industrial robotics, tunable lasers for optical

networking, domestic appliances requiring greater power efficiency and noise

control are just some examples of control applications that will need both lower

cost and the performance headroom provided by a DSP."
