FRAMINGHAM, USA: With much talk about a future that's filled with contingent-only employees and Millennials who expect to jump ship every few years, it's easy to think employees are just not that into their employers anymore.

With this in mind, Virgin Pulse, the market leader in employee health engagement category, has released the results of a new employee engagement survey.

According to the report, engaged employees are more likely to:

* Believe their company cares about their total quality of life - physical, emotional, social, and financial health - not just their life at work

* Be at ease more often than they're uncomfortably stressed at work

* Feel their family and close friends have a connection to their work life, co-workers, or employer

"We may not even realize how much, as employers, CEOs, or HR leaders, we operate on the assumption that who people are at a personal level only matters when it affects their performance at work," said Chris Boyce, CEO of Virgin Pulse.

"We maintain this wall between what's personal and what's business. But showing our employees that we care about them both on the clock and off with programs that support all aspects of their lives will make a major impact on engagement and productivity," added Boyce.

Showing employees the love

The survey found that engaged employees are likely to believe their company cares about their total quality of life, not just their life at work. Specifically:

* Among employees who think their supervisor or manager cares about them as a person, 62 percent agreed their company cares about their total quality of life

* Among employees who say a major source of job satisfaction is that they have opportunities to learn and grow, 62 percent agreed their company cares about their total quality of life

* Among employees who think a major source of job satisfaction is knowing their opinions count, 61 percent agreed their company cares about their total quality of life

The survey also found engaged employees are more likely to feel their friends and family have a connection to their work life, though there is still room for improvement.

"So many people are talking about the engagement crisis - Gallup even estimated it is a $300 billion problem - but we can't just talk about it. We need to solve the problem," added Boyce.

"To boost employee engagement and productivity, one of the most important things we can do as employers and managers is to show our employees we care about them as people, not just as employees. Supporting them in every aspect of their lives will help to create loyal, engaged, productive workers who power business performance," Concludes Boyce.
